Hope is the Best Gift You Could Give...
When they told me I had cancer, it was my worst nightmare come true. My father had just passed away from cancer two weeks before, and my sister lost her life to cancer when she was only 29 years old. My whole life, I had always dreaded cancer. Everyone I had ever known with cancer had died, and now my worst fears were coming true. Having been there for both my sister and father, I knew what was ahead of me and I wasn’t ready to face it. But despite how much I wanted to deny it, less then one month later, I underwent surgery and, then six weeks later, I began chemotherapy at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre.
From the minute I walked into the Cancer Centre, it was a like a warm blanket enveloped me. All of the terrible things that I dreaded just fell away and I was surrounded by such warmth, compassion and caring. It was like going into another world, and everyone – from the receptionists to the nurses, social workers and oncologists – treated me with such tenderness and kindness, that there are just no words to describe how much they care.
Before I walked into the Cancer Centre, I was so afraid. But thanks to the support of generous donors like you and the amazing staff at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre, I not only survived, but today I am so much stronger for it.
Thank you for standing behind me and giving me the HOPE, STRENGH and COURAGE to keep fighting when I needed it most.
