On July 7, 2006, the Cancer Centre Gander was officially opened by the Honourable Minister Tom Osborne, Department of Health and Community Services, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation gratefully acknowledges the generous support of donors from the Gander area who raised more than $55,000 to purchase medical treatment equipment and furnishings for the new Centre.
Located in the James Paton Memorial Hospital, the Cancer Centre Gander can now accommodate seven patients at one time in a pleasant and private environment. Other enhancements include: wheelchair-accessible washrooms; an expanded treatment area; a waiting area and family room; and examination rooms eliminating the need to see cancer patients in the hospital’s out-patient clinic.
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador provided $350,000 to renovate the Cancer Centre Gander which is operated by Eastern Health, in partnership with Central Health.
